Milwaukee Police Department launches new website

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department launched on Wednesday, May 2nd a new website it calls, “The Source.” It can be found at milwaukeepolicenews.com.

MPD created “The Source” to give the public what it calls, “genuine, unfiltered information from us – from the latest crime stats to a hard hitting story about an officer’s work that you won’t see anywhere else.”

MPD says it’ll use the site to correct the news stories that got it wrong and highlight the ones that got it right.

Milwaukee Police Officer Charged in Highway Crash in Tosa

A Milwaukee police officer is facing charges after he crashed his pickup truck on Highway 45 in Wauwatosa while allegedly driving drunk with a gun – a gun he imprudently decided to handle during his arrest.

Randall J. Chicks, 45, was charged Tuesday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon while under the use of an intoxicant. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

'Mark Stein from Corporate' Scam Suspect in Custody

A man accused of pulling numerous scams on area chain store outlets is in police custody, according to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

Patch is not identifying the suspect because his case is still under review and no charges have yet been filed in this case. But Wauwatosa police and sources at the district attorney's office confirmed that the man in custody is suspected in a long string of cons.

In January, reports began to come in to area police departments of a man preying on chain stores. Usually identifying himself on the phone as "Mark Stein" or sometimes "Mike Stern" and claiming to be a corporate officer, he would tell a clerk or manager that he was trying to resolve a claim against the company... Milwaukee Woman Charged with Bringing Drugs to Waukesha Teen Dance

An 18-year-old Milwaukee woman is facing multiple drug charges after she allegedly tried to enter a dance at the Waukesha County Expo Center with a marijuana pipe and heroin.

Vanessa G. DiMartino was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Tuesday with one count of possession of narcotic drugs, two counts of possession of an illegally obtained prescription and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, she faces up to 4 years and 9 months in prison and $11,500 in fines.

OWI Task Force Arrests 23 Drunk Drivers, Most With Double the Legal Alcohol Limit

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office increased its patrols during the Memorial Day weekend to ensure that the lakefront and parks were free from crime and disorder. According to a press release, five perpetrators were arrested and 59 were issued citations for various violations of the law.  

At the start of the Memorial Day weekend, Sheriff David Clarke gave clear a message, "Law violators are not welcome in these public spaces, and if their anti-social behavior continues, we will be more than happy to take them to jail and prosecute them."

Coinciding with this weekend’s enforcement operation, the Sheriff's Office Multi-Jurisdictional OWI Task Force was also deployed targeting impaired drivers on our freeway system and roadways in surrounding municipalities.
