Guinness world record attempt happens June 23, Lake Geneva

Vespa and scooter enthusiasts and their fans can participate in a Guinness world record attempt for the largest scooter parade on the planet. The rally happens Saturday, June 23, 2012. The parade kicks off at 11:00 a.m.

Participation is free to anyone who will be driving any type of scooter in the parade. For those who don't wish to ride in the parade, it's a great opportunity to watch the event and be a part of history in the making.

The two-mile route through historic Lake Geneva will have a police escort. It ends with a celebration at Flatiron Park in the City of Lake Geneva. Coordinators hope to have 1,000 Vespas and scooters of all types participate.

Central Bank to host MADACC Shelter Stars Showcase dog adoption event

The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) will hold a "Shelter Stars Showcase" adoption event on Saturday, Jan. 28 from noon to 2 p.m. at Central Bark Doggy Day Care - Menomonee Valley. Central Bark is located at 333 N. 25th St. in Milwaukee. The event will feature adoptable dogs from MADACC and is a great way for people to find a companion animal to add to their family.

Dogs will be available to do meet-and-greets, and foster families will be present to share information about the dogs’ personality and behavior. The adoption fee is $100 and includes age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping, heartworm testing, and flea/worm treatment. Lofts and indoor farmers market to replace longtime outdoor market

With the completion date set for June 2012, ground was broken for the Mitchell Street Market Lofts on Oct. 6. The complex, to be built on the corner of W. Mitchell St. and S. Muskego Ave., will feature two-bedroom apartments available to people earning up to 60 percent of the area’s median income, according to the press release.

Another key component of the 24-unit apartment building will be a year-round farmers market to be housed on the ground level of the building. The market, which will be run by Growing Power, will replace the Mitchell Street Farmer’s Market, which had been located at the current site for numerous years. American Red Cross urges blood donation as Labor Day approaches

The American Red Cross is encouraging eligible donors to schedule an appointment to donate blood.

All blood types are needed, especially O negative, B negative, and A negative. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can potentially be transfused to patients with any blood type.

To show appreciation for those who help save lives near the Labor Day holiday (August 29 – September 7), all presenting donors at Red Cross blood drives and blood donation centers in the Badger Hawkeye will automatically be entered for a chance to win a $500 gas card.

7th Annual South Side National Night Out this Thursday

The 7th Annual South Side National Night Out in Kosciuszko Park will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Aug. 5. The park is located on 2201 S. 7th Street. The rain date is scheduled for Aug. 9.

This year's event includes:

  • FREE Admission to Pelican Cove Aquatic Center all day
  • Live Entertainment/Talent Show from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., featuring D. J. Monk with Lil Pito

Raining Jane comes to town August 5 as part of the Millions For Music Concert Series in Milwaukee. The four lady band plays the acoustic, indie-rock genre of music that's becoming all the rage across the nation.

Millions For Music events are concerts hosted by Susan Million who has a love and passion for music. Million said, "This is a chance for local and national artists to play in an intimate, cozy setting with a small group of people. It gives artists the chance to showcase their talents right here in Milwaukee."

The venue couldn't be more fitting for these type's of events. Live Artists Studio, 228 S. 1st Street, Suite 302, in Milwaukee is a New York Style loft equipped with a bar and an ever changing gallery of progressive artwork.
